Five photos from New Year 2003. Rain at the start of the week then sunshine and frost, but the river was still in flood.

A page of seven photos from our trip in September 2002. We were really lucky with the weather, having only one day of rain in the whole two weeks.

Heading north after from Hawkesbury Junction in April 2002. Susan having performed a perfect turn. This trip was a long weekend cuise from Barton Turns Marina, where Copperkins is currently based, to Hawkesbury and back.

Motor Daphne

Butty Susan

Our other two narrow boats - these live in an old gin bottle in our living room!
This superb model of a Samuel Barlow pair was made by John Burden (UK Tel 01672 563193). The motor Daphne and the butty Susan are both names of actual Samuel Barlow boats. nb Daphne No 48 was built by Nurser's of Braunston in 1938 and has been restored. nb Susan was originally owned by S E Barlow and transfered to the Samuel Barlow fleet in 1957.

Copperkins moored in the centre of Birmingham in September 2001. We have had many enjoyable weeks cruising the BCN, and have never had any problems with valdalism or stone throwing. We do of course get the usual collection of plastic bags and blue string round the prop, but in many places the water is very clear so you can at least see what you have caught.

Proof that it is not always sunny! A rainbow over Worcester in October 2000. On this trip we took over Copperkins at Worcester and had itended to visit Stratford via the Severn and Avon. However the rivers were in flood, so we headed for Birmingham up the Tardebigge flight instead.

Salford Quays

Chester

Langollen

Three photographs are from our summer 1998 trip which started at the Waterways Festival at Salford Quays. We travelled back to our base for that year at Great Haywood via Chester and Llangollen.

Rochdale 9

Worsley

We visited Worsley in September 1997, this is the birthplace of the British canal system. The Bridgewater Canal was opened in 1765 to serve The Duke of Bridgewater's coalmines here and its success led to other canals being built throughout the country. As part of this trip also did the Cheshire Ring, including the Rochdale nine through the centre of Manchester.

This was taken in December 1996 near Weedon. While Copperkins frozen-in and the temperature below freezing.

Fazeley Junction in January 1994.
